June 28, 2010 — As summer officially kicks into gear, there are plenty of fun activities and events scheduled this week throughout the Inland Northwest. Check out kayaking, free movies, a pennant race for families, a classic fairy tale and more.
Pirates of the Coeur d'Alene
This 90-minute family adventure lake cruise takes place onboard a pirate ship on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The story of Calico Jack includes scallywags and heroes, gold doubloons and swashbuckling sword fights, even an attack from a rescue ship. Kids will also enjoy face-painting and dancing with snacks and beverages. Each child will leave with a special pirate memento. Parents will have a great time too! Kayak Coeur d'Alene
Ready to cool off from the summer heat? Try gliding along one of the Inland Northwest's world-famous lakes in a kayak from Kayak Coeur d'Alene. The store at 307 E. Locust Ave. in Coeur d'Alene provides a variety of touring, fishing and recreational kayaks for rent. Single kayaks and stand-up paddle boards run $35 for a half-day, $50 for a full day. Tandem kayaks are $50 and $80. In addition to Lake Coeur d'Alene, kayakers can enjoy Hayden Lake, Lake Pend Oreille, Priest Lake and Fernan Lake, among others. 'Eclipse' Party
The Liberty Lake Municipal Library is hosting a movie release party June 29 for 'Eclipse,' the latest installment in the 'Twilight' saga. Dress as your favorite character for the 4 p.m. event that will include trivia, games, activities and giveaways for fans of all ages. The library is located at 23123 E. Spokane Indians 8K Pennant Race
Interested in a challenging, but fun race through the heart of Spokane? The Spokane Indians baseball club and Runner's Soul will sponsor the 8K Pennant Race and 1K Kids Fun Run on Saturday, July 24, beginning at 8 a.m. Early registration is taking place now through July 16 with a cost of $30 for adults and $5 for kids. The run will begin in Riverfront Park and wind through the Centennial Trail. Adult participants receive a Brooks technical race T-shirt and all who register get a free ticket to the Spokane Indians game that night against Tri-City. Movies at Pavillion Park
Liberty Lake hosts free movies for the public throughout the summer at Pavillion Park. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy two great movies this weekend. Friday, July 2 they will show 'Jumanji,' the 1995 film about an enchanted board game (rated PG). 'The Pursuit of Happiness,' starring Will Smith (rated PG-13) will be featured this Saturday, July 3.
