February 8, 2010 — A newly completed McGuire Road meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Post Falls held an open house for the public on Jan. 30.

The meetinghouse will be home to more than 900 Latter-day Saints who reside in the west Post Falls area. Before the meetinghouse was constructed, the Church's 16th Avenue meetinghouse was taxed with the growing congregations. With three wards at capacity in the building, members had to park along the street and on the grass, and divide up meeting times throughout the week and on Sunday.
"There's a deep feeling of excitement and gratitude among the members, in the anticipation of a new chapel," said Joel Mundt, bishop of the Post Falls First Ward, one of the two congregations that will share the building. "This open house is an opportunity for all members of our community to come and share the love and respect we have for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
The realignment of the Post Falls ward boundaries was also announced recently. One new ward, the Post Falls Third Ward was formed and boundaries in the other three wards were also changed. The new Post Falls Third Ward and newly formed Post Falls First Ward will attend services at the new building at 1670 N. McGuire Road.
"We are so grateful for the blessing of having another building in Post Falls" said Aaron Nicholes, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho stake president who oversaw the construction of this beautiful new structure. "It is tangible evidence of the faith of our members. We have had a great need for this building for quite some time, just logistically speaking, and it is a great day to see it finally come to pass. The Lord has been so kind to us in granting an answer to our prayers."
There are long-time residents who remember attending the first and only LDS church in this area, which was on 14th and Garden Avenue in Coeur d'Alene, now home of the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre. Now there are half-a-dozen large meeting houses in the Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Rathdrum and Post Falls area including two stake centers that house nearly 6,000 Latter-day Saints.

The 13.5 million-member church has constructed tens of thousands of meetinghouses throughout the world for a total of 28,109 congregations.
