It took a few years for Rook to learn to enjoy practicing, but once he discovered he could play and make his own music, he never looked back. After taking lessons from his grandmother, he studied under a number of professional pianists. He had no formal training in composition, but one teacher in Boise encouraged him in that area.
"I had all these tunes and melodies in my head that I wanted to write," said Rook.
Now 19, and a member of the Post Falls First Ward, Coeur d'Alene Stake, Rook just released his first CD which is comprised of 11of his own compositions. The CD is titled "Memories" and his favorite song also bears the same name.

Stewart & Associates Wins Entrepreneurial Spirit Award
By Tanya Smith, Staff WriterShare:
July 19, 2010 — Greg Stewart, CPA and founder of Stewart & Associates and member of the Riverside Ward in the Colville Stake, walked across the stage in the Grand Pennington Ballroom at the Davenport Hotel on June 2 to receive a prized honor
amongst Spokane area business owners.
Spokane's chamber of commerce, Greater Spokane Incorporated, has been presenting The AGORA Awards for the last quarter century. Being honored with an AGORA has become a mark of business excellence over the years.
"The Agora" was a marketplace in ancient Greek city-states where merchants sold their goods. GSI's annual formal AGORA Awards ceremony honors businesses in a variety of categories. Stewart & Associates received 2010's Entrepreneurial Spirit Award for their own entrepreneurial success and the help they offer to struggling businesses.
"We actively pursued the AGORA Award because we wanted to show a level of excellence for services offered to small businesses," said Stewart.

Being honored with the award was especially exciting to Stewart and his staff because they had been told in the past that an accounting firm was just too boring to win. "We were able to prove a hundred dollar bill could be just as exciting as other products," he said.

The Spokane East Stake will celebrate Pioneer Day on Saturday, July 24 with an event called "Bring Them In," beginning with a pioneer-themed parade at 8:15 a.m. A musical program honoring pioneers will follow at 8:45. A breakfast of sourdough griddle cakes, buffalo hash, eggs and homemade bread and jam will begin at 9:15. A variety of games and activities - including tug-of-war, handcart races and a revered pioneer tradition, Frisbee golf, will start at 10:15. The event, at the East Stake Center and pavilion, 13608 E. 40th, is free and open to the public.
The Spokane North Stake is celebrating Pioneer Day with a touch of authenticity. The youth in the stake are going on a pioneer-style handcart trek. Stake leaders have been planning the trek for nearly a year. The youth, 14 and up, will leave for the trek on July 22 and get back the evening of Pioneer Day. They'll trek on private property, near Springdale, WA., in 1800s-style clothing, pulling real handcarts. Registration for the event was online; so far 250 youth in the North Stake have signed up for the trek. For more information go to www.spokaneyouthtrek.org.
Coeur d'Alene Stake will be observing Pioneer Day with a community service project at Farragut State Park from 9 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be provided.
